Hot Plate Stirrer Description:
A magnetic stirrer or hot plate stirrer is a laboratory device that uses a rotating magnetic field to cause a magnetic stir bar to spin very quickly in immersed liquid. Since glassware does not affect a magnetic field and most chemical reactions occur in glass vessels like low-form beakers or flasks, magnetic stir bars work well. The limited size of the bar means that magnetic stirrers are usually used for benchtop scale processes. Viscous liquids or thick suspensions can also challenge these magnetic stirrers and stir-bars. For larger volumes or more viscous liquids, mechanical stirring using an overhead stirrer is recommended.
